The Vineyards Trattoria and Pizzeria - Norfolk, VA

The Vineyards Trattoria and Pizzeria interior

Alex and I have dined here several times now. The food is always good. The wait to get your food is always long. They have fantastic garlic knots that they give you while you wait. They must go through a lot of these.... It is rather small inside, with tables close to each other. There is no buffer from the entrance to tables. You really feel the weather when the door opens, regardless of where you are seated. Today there were monsoon-like winds blowing downtown, and it rippled through the restaurant every time the door opened. I ate lunch without removing my coat.

I choose the Grilled Salmon Salad, and my buddy ordered her favorite sandwich, the Chicken Parmigiani. She says the chicken is so tender it melts in your mouth. I can only attest to the fact that she was a member of the clean plate club and said it was delicious. My salad was an interesting combination of Salmon with walnuts, dried cherries and goat cheese. The salmon was a little on the well done side for me, but tasted fine. Service was okay, but wasn't very soliticous. This has been my experience on most occassions. Their service does not set the world on fire.

Overall I would rate this restaurant as just "okay". I don't mind going there, but it isn't on the top of my list due to variables other than the food.
